The Bushfire Co-operative Research Centre has warned that large areas of south-eastern and south-western Australia face above normal fire risk this bushfire season.

In the past month, we have already seen disastrous fires in the Blue Mountains and on the central coast of NSW, which NIBA estimates will see $183 million in claims paid out by insurance companies.

Some insurers avoid writing commercial property in bushfire exposed areas and many do not insure the kinds of commercial businesses that are located in these rural and semi-rural areas. Bed and Breakfast and other Boutique Accommodation properties are frequently located in very scenic locations, which have a heightened risk of bushfire.

Axis insures Bed & Breakfast and other short stay accommodation risks of all kinds across Australia, which includes many bushfire exposed locations. We have seen strong demand in these areas and in some high bushfire risk zones our available capacity is becoming limited.

Axis can consider not only Bed & Breakfast and other accommodation risks in regional and rural areas but a wide range of commercial activities. Visit our risk matrix for more information.
